These tips will help you create a bathroom vanity you’ll love for years to come.
Why is Starbucks so popular?
Because you get the feeling of custom.
You order off a menu with set sizes, but you can play with the details until you have an order that’s uniquely yours – whether that’s a grande dark roast with cinnamon and a splash of cream, or a venti extra hot half-caf sugar-free vanilla oat milk latte.
What if you could do that with your bathroom vanity?
With Rock Solid Vanities, you can! Your quartz top. Your finish. Your drawer and door style. Your hardware. Even your faucet pattern (faucet not included – although you can certainly customize that too!).
But just like at Starbucks, sometimes the sheer volume of choices can be overwhelming. We can’t help you decide between your go-to order and the latest seasonal special at the drive-thru, but these tips can guide you through designing the bathroom of your dreams.
A bathroom vanity is a big commitment
Your bathroom isn’t just a bathroom; it’s a key place in your home. It’s where you prepare to face your day, and where you wind down at night. But as important as your bathroom is, it’s not a room you’re going to renovate every few months.
To ensure you create a bathroom vanity you’ll love for years to come, consider the architectural style and personality of your home. Take direction from the mood of the rest of the house, be it traditional, transitional, rustic, modern, urban or rural, and complement the architecture as best you can.
For example, if your millwork (such as doors, door casings, windows and trims) is stained, choose a painted vanity so the finishes don’t clash.
If your style is stark minimalist, choose a stained vanity for complementary contrast.
Set the right mood
The vanity is center stage in any bathroom and sets the tone for the room. You need to decide what you want that tone to be. Calm? Neutral? Bold? (If you need a little inspiration, check out our brochure and see what catches your eye!)
Whether you’re starting from scratch or working with existing finishes, round everything up and make sure the color palette appeals to you. You’ll also want to make sure there’s some repetition of color tones and finishes so the final design isn’t too busy.
Next, you’ll want to add in one or two contrasting layers of interest. This could be your countertop, your door hardware, or another design element such as tile, wallpaper or lighting.
Now consider all of your choices together. Do the flooring and wall treatments complement the vanity? Does the vanity complement the tile and countertops? Does the vanity hardware complement the plumbing and fixtures? Do the lighting and vanity mirror complement the vanity or hardware?
If you answered “yes”, congratulations – you’ve got yourself a winning recipe for a bathroom you’ll love.
Make a statement, not a mess
If you’re going to make a bold choice in your bathroom, your best bet is to start with one of the largest elements and work backwards.
Is there one cabinet finish you love above all others? Or a floor tile you just can’t get out of your head? That’s your statement piece.
With this item in mind, you can build your design one element at a time, making sure your color palette is tonal and calm while including some contrast in texture and scale. This could mean black hardware on a white scheme, a stained vanity in an otherwise neutral space – anything that pops against the rest of the room.
Once you’ve chosen a pop element, you’ll want to repeat it throughout the room with artwork, accent tiles and accessories that pull everything together.
Remember: countertop accessories can go a long way in creating the desired look in your space. They’re also a great way to incorporate a trend into your design without making a major commitment that could leave your bathroom looking dated just a year or two later.
